  • Redknapp sticking it to the players

I'm not sure how to feel. Maybe he is trying to get them to prove themselves in these remaining games?
"What stats allow you to do is not take things at face value. The idea that I trust my eyes more than the stats, I just don't buy that because I've seen magicians pull rabbits out of hats and I know I just know that rabbit's not in there." - Billy Beane

"Players won’t go," Redknapp continued. "How are you going to get rid of them? They all have contracts. I wish you could say players would leave but it isn’t going to happen.

"Who is going to pay them what they’re earning here? It’s going to be hard to shift them."

    Says it all really.

a lot of the players we have would struggle in the championship for sure, they wont have the stomach for the fight.

Or, to play devil's advocate for a bit, Redknapp absolves himself of blame and points finger at the players.

I'd say there's blame enough to go round.

IMO Redknapp also has to have a look at himself. Saturday's performance was just not the players being cr*p, but also the lack of tactics, ideas, team selection, and plan b.

To be fair, he was pretty good for the few matches since his reinstatement into the squad

The impression I get is that no one is breaking a sweat here; not Harry, not the players, not the back room staff, not the board. Scientologists used to have a marketing campaign led by the slogan "We only use 10% of our brain's capacity....."
That sums QPR up this season, 10% of the time their mind is on the job, the rest of the time, who knows? I don't think Harry has given it as good a shot as he's capable of, don't know why either.

True. It is a big problem. A squad that wins 4 games all season is in dire need of an overhaul. But they are all paid so much that he wont be able to move many on unless the club sweetens the deals. That leaves a lot of egg on a lot of faces as well as another chunk of finances allocated but sometimes cutting your losses is better business than continuing to bang your head against the wall.

Blame lies firmly at the door of Hughes / Rigg / and also Beard & Fernandes & co for sanctioning such exuberant wages on players who clearly lack hunger with limited sell on value.

Harry can only work with what he's got. For me biggest mistakes since he's been here has been Samba just has not paid off but lets be honest we've all wanted him for the last 2 seasons, taking Remy off against Wigan was a mistake for me & certain line ups have been questionable but I could see the logic in them.

As I said initially the signings in general were the cause of our demise. Wrong type of players on big money.

It astounds me how many of our big signings have flopped, Park, Granero, Hoilett, Boswinga and Samba have just been shadows of what they were supposed to be! You can also add Diakite and Barton to players who have let this team down for one reason or another! Other than the top 6 sides when I see the starting 11 for most teams I see a bunch of no names who are achieving much more than our over paid flops!

players yes but those players played ok in the first half, not brilliant but good enough to have not been embarrased if we had gone in one up rather than 1 down

the second half was a half hearted effort. now you can blame the players for that but Redknap had them at half time along with his coaching staff and they were all there on the touch line in the second half, Redknapp, Jordan, Bond, Cotteril so based on that second half what is this large coaching staff getting paid for, we have brought in a diamond striker but really we are not much better than we were before, if hughes had had Remy he would have done as well as Redknapp has

Thats the bottom line for me Redknapp and his team really havent made a significant difference,
its New Era number 8 i tell thee, bring on the fireworks

Yep. I think it is a good example why getting football management right is so difficult. Who would say that Jenas would be better than Granero or Townsend a star player? Harry could see it but he has decades of experience doing that one job. Most people in football are working off far less knowledge and it is so difficult to see the wood for the trees. Football as a sport is extremely difficult to analyse and understand. The difference between good on paper and good on grass can be crazy as demonstrated by Hughes signings this season.

This was the full interview, strong but true words from Harry. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2...harry-redknapp

"You say [they are] talented players but I don't know," he asked. "Are they that talented?"
"I hear that all the time that if they get relegated they want to go because they don't want to play in the Championship, But if they f****** played better they would not be in the Championship so that's a load of cobblers."
"When you went to the corner and saw our fans celebrating the way they were you just wanted to be part of it" - Shaun Derry after we beat the scum 1-0
