  • Why we deserve to go down!

Some thoughts of why we deserve to go down:

    • Signing players who have reached their peaks, not hungry for new challenges, at the end of their career, or not wanted by other PL clubs: PJS, SWP & Bosingwa.

    • Late sacking of Mark Hughes: I understand TF call for stability but Mark Hughes should have been sacked after losing to West Ham in October.

    • Defense. Clint Hill deserves credit for his performance last season and a new contract. However, due to his age, we should have kept him on the bench and brought a younger CB. He admitted himself he could not adapt to the pace of the PL. Another CB above 30 in Ryan Nelsen was another gamble although he did great considering he had not played for a long time before joining. Mark Hughes simply failed to bring quality CBs.

    • Selling Helguson: Top scorer last season should have at least kept on the bench and sell Bothroyd.

    • Lone striker: We continued playing lone striker tactics since the beginning of the season and only started 2 upfront from the Southampton game in March. You cannot expect to win with only one striker unless If your lone striker is a proven top scorer like Suarez or RVP. People may say we had injuries, then why Bothroyd was not called back from Sheffield Wed when Johnson got injured to play alongside Cisse or Mackie at least in home games. We should have taken this gamble as nothing worked with lone striker. Imagine If Helguson was there.

    • Taarabt: The way he has been used perhaps was the reason we played lone striker, using his skills by nutmeging defenders, but he was our only option to feed our loan striker as both SWP and Mackie were not good enough on the wings. Notice how we improved after using Townsend and Hoilett (thought he had a lot bad games) on the wings: more opportunities and more goals.

    • Tony Fernandes: No question about his passion, but I refer back to Neil Warnock’s comment after leaving Leeds saying there is a huge gap between club owners and managers. This is what we lacked. “Football Advisor” who could at least with his football experience have assured we had signed good defenders, advised Tony to sack Mark Hughes earlier as well as assist on players contract wages/clauses, help in scouting, etc.

Some good points, I think a full book could be written about mistakes made on and off the field, I still am of the thinking we really don't deserve to go down, many breaks just didn't go our way this season!

      We suck.
Banning people is no longer my hobby,
but take a look at my photo blog:

Agree - there are so many more factors too.

My personal view (yes hindsight is a wonderful aide too) is that the most important factors are these:

          1. Club is being run like a plaything by people who do not understand football at all.
          2. We have managed to turn the most wonderful asset in football (money) from a positive force into a negative one.
          3. Trying to tempt players who have no other reason to come here with ludicrous contracts has failed
          4. Paying players 5x what their team mates are on = will never work anywhere in the world.
          5. Playing players like Mackie, Derry and co.......
          6. Not addressing key issues like striker (until very late)
          7. Too many slow players
          8. Too many players in and out for years.....

If money is the most wonderful asset in Football then I am watching the wrong sport.

Sorry but I think they do deserve to go down. Far too odten QPR players have made basic and avoidable erros or decisons.
Just in the Wigan game there was Zamora's sending off, Taarabt moving his head out of the way or the needless free kick given away by Mbia (I have now seen a slow motion replay and although not a lot in it, he didnt need to make a challenge). Even Redknapp taking off Remy for Mackie was an error.

Then there was Samba's errors against Fulham, Cesar's non performance at Villa. Taarabt's penalty miss, Redknapp playing Mackie alone as a striker in a number of winable games i.e. Villa home, Wigan away, Norwich home etc.

Earlier in the season there were costly errors from Ferdinand, Traore, Zamora, Boswinga Green etc and some poor decisions all around from Hughes from team selection and transfers. Mbia's sending off at Arsenal was stupid.

I agree with Yousef, Hughes transfer deals in the summer were not very well thought out. A younger CB was needed to replace Ferdinand. A striker who can score goals was also required. Relying on a tempremental Cisse or the injury prone Zamora was bad enough, but to add Johnson (a long term injury waiting to happen) and then claiming that he didn't need anyone else, so he sold Helguson and loaned out Campbell and Bothroyd was hust dowright foolish and stupid.

I also agree he should have gone earlier than he did, perhaps not after West Ham as this came just after difficult games against Man City, Chelsea and Spurs, but I think he should have been sacked after either the Everton or Arsenal matches, which given the circumstances were very winable games - Everton down to 10 men for around 30 mins and Arsenal were on poor form and Santos was seriously struggling, yet was rarely tested because Hughes had chosen a negative team.

Given the way the season has gone, it is hard for me to feel that that QPR have been unlucky or harshly treated by refs (yes, some poor decisions in some games, i.e. Arteta's winner, West Brom's winner and Ridgewell's handball), but overall QPR cannot blame officials too much.

The inevitable relegation is down to nearly everyone at the club from the managers, players, coaches and the Board.

Giving out lucrative contracts with no clauses about pay cuts if relegated, is likely to prove yet another costly error.

By breaks going our way I was meaning things like the WBA home match where the referee doesn't call a foul for backing into Green on a goal and misses a blatant penalty for handball (we probably would have missed) and the Arsenal winner was offside after Granero was fouled up field, things like that have not gone our way! Obviously we are where we are mostly because of poor performances but you just wonder what would have happened had Remy's early strike gone in off the woodwork or Boswinga's FK vs Villa before they equalized!

I have to agree, I really don't think we have had any luck these past 2 seasons and had just a couple of things gone our way, we would at least be in with a semi chance of staying up. They say you make your own luck and in some ways I agree, as we were given chances from the spot in 2 games but missed them and with them perhaps 3 extra points across the 2 games but we really have had poor decisions against us, which have cost us points and also moral going into the next game.

You are watching the wrong sport then. Money is the main ingredient in success now.

Money wins leagues. Look at every league in the World and the rich clubs win them every year. The richest club wins most years, but the less wealthy clubs never, ever win in big leagues anymore.

Just look at Chelsea. Nothing until Roman turns up and now they have more medals than The Red Baron. Same with City.

Another reason is overpaying salaries i.e Bosingwa £65,000!!! So If we have mercenaries, we only have ourselves to blame for making them mercenaries. Why do you think Odemwingie took all the distance driving to LR on deadline night?

Ever since the Watford game to secure promotion things have just gone from bad to worse. 1. Did not know whether we were champions or nnot until the morning of the last game 2. No promotion party or parade 3. Will BE and FB sell the club or not? the whole delay cost us valuable time in trying to build and improve our team which then led to signing free transfer duds 4. When TF comes in we have around 7-10 days to sign enough quality to improve us 5. Sacking Warnock and bring in Hughes who then signs a few 30 plus players with no sell on fees. 6. Letting Hughes, Rigg and Joorabchin loose with all our cash. 7. Not sacking Hughes until it was too late and whoever came in had no prayer with the way the squad was put together.

I hope we learn and break the whole thing up and start again and with Redknapp in charge we can do it and maybe TF and co should learn from the past season and a half.
