With him in the team we would have been in a better position. Many strange decisions this season, by managers and players, but this one - letting your best defender go when we are fighting for our lives - is beyond me. I don`t blame Nelsen but the one who said "ok" to a man who was our player.

He was under contract, so we did let him go. We would have been well within our rights and don't think many would have blamed us if we made him honour his contract and stay until the end of the season. Especially in our friggin situation!

If Van Persie turned round tomorrow and said to Ferguson that he'd had enough and wanted to go and become a plumber, do you think they'd say "Ok Robin son, thanks for your half a season, off you go"?

Makes no difference. If the player WANTS to go which he did then no point club holding him back. He was bought as back up. If Hughes had addressed the situation that was glaringly obvious we wouldn't of been so reliant on Ryan Nelsen.

This. Going over old ground again, but the bloke said himself he was shot to pieces, knees & ankles in bits after each game he played. He got a greta opportunity to make the next step in his career - who are we to have a pop at him for wanting to take that opportunity? As Ric says, he was only brought in as back up - Hughes farked up by leaving that position so thin on the ground it was a joke and Nelsen was forced to play every game for us. Put in 100% every minute he played and, I for one, will look back on his time with us very fondly and wish him all the best.

Others feel free to stay bitter though.

Not really bitter just disappointed that we made another balls up. We let our best defender go and manage another team in the middle of a relegation fight which could have huge consequences for us if we drop. I don't give a fark about us being "nice", all I care about is QPR and their short/long term future.

If the shoe had been on the other foot and we had wanted to get shot of him, would he have expected us to keep paying him for the duration of his contract?

Nelson served us well. i think the bigger issue is that he was our 1st choice CB

can't believe we didn't get a couple of CBs over the summer. it's was so so naive/stupid

but then Hughes DID want to go for Dede, so you can't ENTIRELY blame him. he wasn't able to get his targets

He got offered a promotion. I've said it before - if you were offered a promotion with a different company would you turn it down? I wouldn't. not if i need to ensure an income in an industry where around 70% of over 35 y/o are no longer employable...

Comparing Nelson to Van Persie is daft. Van is younger, on a much longer contract and has a significant transfer value. As others have said Nelson was brought in to bring some experence and leadership to the dressing room and play the odd game. Great opportunity for him and wish him the best. Really good pro. Shame Hughes didn't manage to bring in some defenders and also that Anton never got going this season. To have forced him to stay would have been wrong.
