  • Warnock hopes Hughes gets Leeds job to 'destroy another team of mine'

The former Leeds manager Neil Warnock wants Mark Hughes to replace him at Elland Road so he can "destroy another team of mine".

The Welshman took over from Warnock at Queens Park Rangers in January 2012 and has been out of work since leaving Loftus Road in November. Hughes, 49, has been linked with the managerial vacancy at Leeds following Warnock's departure on Monday.

Warnock told talkSPORT: "I personally hope Mark Hughes follows me again and destroys another team of mine. I don't think it's a club for a young manager. There is so much going on behind the scenes it is ridiculous really. It needs somebody who has seen it all and done it all.

"I laugh when I see some of these names: a) we can't afford the compensation; and b) do you think Mark Hughes would want Leeds United at the moment? It's a hard one but there are a lot of applicants."

Warnock, 64, hinted that his managerial career may be over but he is likely to remain in the game for some time. He added: "I've got a young family and I want to relax a bit. But I do feel now, especially with the tenure of managers being so short, that there is a massive gap between the owners of a club and the manager himself and I don't think there is enough expertise in between those two roles.

"I do think, even if it's only a couple of days a week, I can help somebody. I'm sure there is somebody that would be crying out for that sort of role."

Mark Bowen went on shortly after that and defended Hughes while also slating Warnock at the same time.
"When you went to the corner and saw our fans celebrating the way they were you just wanted to be part of it" - Shaun Derry after we beat the scum 1-0

Appears so Dave. I actually think he genuinely liked Being manager here, and was enjoying things. I know he bigs up every club he's been at with his "these are the best fans I've ever known" & "this is the best stadium I've ever worked at" but he dosnt seem to be able to let it drop.

Every little oppertunity he pipes up.

I personally liked the bloke and would have him back tomorrow. I can't stand watching a team that doesn't fight, and for all his criticisms that's one thing you could never throw at an NW team.

As funny as that is. Credit to Mark Hughes for not saying a word
          Under Les Ferdinand:
Luke Freeman, top assists in the league: 4million
Alex Smithies, great goalie for this club: 3,5million
Charlie Austin, 19 Premier League goals: 4million
Jack Robinson: Contract ran out, left for free
          And many more mistakes

I wouldn't be interested to hear what he would say anyway.

I'd be guessing it would be along the lines of "never again will this club be in a situation like this season with me In charge".

            F****** Pratt.

true. But it would be worse if MH was slagging off fans, players etc. so I'm glad he's just took time out

R u saying Colin is wrong????????!!!!!
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

Probably part of his severance package that he has to keep his trap shut.

Has every right to be bitter about his sacking from us - especially given how the managers since him have performed. Our highest position in the PL must have been under NW? By some way - we haven't been out of the bottom 4 since I don't think.

I would take him back in a heart beat next season.

Warnock with someone younger and up-coming would be a great combination next season.

yeah agree with that TW, always seemed to get that little bit more out of players, than previous stats would suggest.
