  • Who deserves/needs to play tomorrow

SO I was watching the highlights of the last match against fulham and one thing struck me: Taarabt and faurlin were in every highlight without exception. Obviously Faurlin isn't here but park does the same job with a bit more hustle and a bit less quality (granted) and so does jenas. But for me, taarabt needs to start, one thing he seems capable of doing is playing against slow teams and fulham are the slowest of slow. Having him with remy and townsend will give us that attacking trident that worked so well in the last fulham match and I think that if we keep the balls between them, we have a huge chance of beating them. Who do you think needs to start for us to win?

That is true, he can battle with hangeland and leave remy to deal with the rest of the defence, maybe 41212:

      Green/Cesar
      Bosingwa Hill Samba Fabio

      Jenas/Park

      Townsend Hoilett

      Taarabt
      Remy
      Zamora

The team that started at Aston Villa, with the exception of Cesar.
Green's inclusion from the start, would be the only change I would make.
Provided, of course, everybody is fit and well.

I feel hoilett needs to play to capitalise on the lack of speed in fulhams defence

I think jenas replaced him but i would play either park or jenas with hoilett

None of us know what happens in training or how players react to the international break or little knocks they may have or the plan to counter FFC or a million other things.

But from what I have seen the Villa starting line up with Green in goal is the best option by a mile.

I think Hoillet, Townsend, Remy would run them ragged tomorrow.

Completely agree but i think we do need taarabt to unsettle them as (despite marshy's beliefs), Taarabt can slow down our play and if we keep interchanging between wing play, long balls and taarabt's skills, they wont be in the game at all

I think it will be between Taarabt and Hoillet who starts, but both will have a big part to play.
Taarabt seems to have a good understanding of Remy as well.
Think we just need to go out there and hit them with everything we have got the 1st half.

So true, but look at villa last time, we can't afford to smash them for one half and lose energy after the break. I think if we start with taarabt and sub on hoilett after half time maybe for zamora, we can maintain high energy from some attacking avenues after the break

The 1st half at villa we could have easily been 3 or 4 up at Half Time.
Think we need to try it again, and then bring on Taarabt should we be a few goals up

I know, but what i'm saying is that based on the fact that we always seem to come up against in form goalkeepers, we can't rely on that first half performance, regardless of how amazing we were. I think that as an impact sub at half time, it makes more sense to bring on someone fast and have the playmaker on from the start so we can at least do our best to get as many chances as possible and force them out of the game early. while also defending well late into the half to stop momentum from shifting as it always seems to. then at half time, when they think they can regroup, we bring on hoilett or mackie and just continue to pummel them with pace and hard work.
But i can understand where you are coming from considering that other than sunderland second half, the villa first half was probably our best of the season
