Our defence- bar Swansea home and away and, sadly, Villa away- hasn't been our main problem. It's our total inability to score goals. We've been poor up front but note that Jenas- who's started three games (?)- has scored more than any other central midfielder combined other than Adel. Granero, Park, Derry, Faurlin, Mbia and Diakite have only one goal between them.

Good point. Must have one of the lowest goal totals in EPL history. Take out the last 3 games and the team have hardly scored at all especially from midfield.
And Nelsen was excellent too so the defence was not the biggest problem of the team.

But tbh I think the football side of it is only part of it there is also mentality. First half of the season the players were performing like they did not care about the result. Samba alone if he arrived in the summer could not force the rest of the team to play.

It is a good point that our attack was not good enough. However I believe our defensive instability made things worse. Too many individual mistakes by our backline cost us the confidence we needed in the beginning of the season. Samba would have brought some stability. Hill was benched for a reason. First thing harry did was to make everyone work much harder defensively, which imo they way to go. Build from the back and forward. I think we are now seing the result from that.

An example of this is the last cup game. We created alot of chances in the game and dominated possesion but 3 individual mistakes by hill, ferdinand and traore made us lose the game. We wasted chances and they scored on the few chances they had.

If we take a look on the first game of the season against swansea:

We had 21 shots, they had 13. Yet they scored 5.
Taarabt wasted 8 shots!!! Its just wasteful to lose possesion this way, and I think that is one of the reasons why we lost. Our only forward Cisse, had 0 shots on goal!! Our midfield wasted our chances and gave away possesion by doing so. Wasteful.

Conclusion: Our attacking players can't finish, so they should pass the ball to someone who can or someone in a better position.

Fair points regarding Swansea, Madera. We disagree about Clint. But I'd certainly have liked to have seen Hill or Nelsen paired with Samba from the get go.

Well Clint has improved. Don't get me wrong he is a very good defender and should start. Sometimes, especially in the beginning of the season, he was not good enough. But I thought the whole backline was shaky back then. Ceasar has saved us more than once this season and he as well is not in a good form. It goes up and down for everyone and should not be a reason to get rid of of a player.

I must say I still think we should try Mbia and Samba in the future if we get a chance. From what I've heard Mbia was solid as CB before he came here.
