  • If Hughes bought Samba...

...in the beginning of the season like he wanted to I think we would be in a much better place today. Hughes mistake was to rely too much on Ferdinand and Hill. They cost us dearly, especially in the beginning of the season. Hughes should have just have spent the money they wanted. Why oh why. Samba would have been a better choice for captain as well. Can't stop thinking about it.

He didn't sign him be because he wouldn't play midfield
I need some time in the sunshine, I gotta slow it right down.

Hughes started rebuilding the squad starting with the attackers, then midfield and I think time ran out before he could sort out the defence. Either that or he loves his midfielders!

Apparently, QPR could have bought him from Anzhi in the summer if they had met the release clause price.

i suspect the price related to what period of time he was at anzhi...probably 15mill if triggered in the summer...

The release clause at Anzhi did not kick in until January after he had been there a year. Also Nelsen did a reasonable job.

More than reasonable I'd say - he was superb.

Maybe, but I seem to recall that after he joined QPR someone at Anzhi claimed they could have signed him in the summer. This would tie in with all the rumours in the summer that he was unsettled there and willing to come back to England.

I don't think it was just not signing Samba, Hughes needed to sign a decent Goalscorer as well.

Now we have Samba and Remy, hopefully its not too late.
If we stay up and Harry is still with us, I can see us being quite strong next season with a few more additions.

Thought Hill was a liability in the beginning of the season. Think he was made the scapegoat on this forum.

Think Samba and Ferdinand, Samba and Nelson, or Samba and Mbia. My god or backline would be solid. We needed it in the beginning of the season when our team was not a team.

I thought our front men were alright in the beginning of the season until some of them got injured. Remy is a really top player though. I hope he stays but I can't see it if we go down.

Most folk on this forum have a great deal of time for Clint Hill. Anton was the liability under Hughes. Nelsen was immense. Hughes played Hill two or three times at CB. Once at LB. Go big up Park rather than run Clint down.
