  • Are we "Saddo's" if we care too much about QPR???

Just reading HammersmithR's thread about when the season starts, and saw comments about people being sad if they plan things around QPR. I've seen this before on here on Saturdays if we've had a defeat,....some posters mocking others for being upset at a result.
So just wondered is it "sad" to care so much about our team,...or is it some fans are just more passionate about their football, and if so, should they be mocked? Let's face it, it's why we're here isn't it?
Football is more than just a game isn't it? A game is monopoly, Chess etc.......this has men, women, and children travelling all over the country just watching 11 men play football.
This sport you cannot change your allegiance if you're a true fan, you're stuck with each other.....I just think it's more than a game.......and yes QPR have ruined many a weekend for me, I just can't help it.

good post Dave and agree that some fans are just more passionate about their football than others...

Can't wait for tw's comment on the matter

For the record, I don't think it's sad - it's just different strokes for different folks. I, personally, won't plan holidays around QPR and I will miss the odd game for various reasons, I don't go religiously every single week, but I do care about QPR and, although it is "just a game" technically, it is more than that really to us fans isn't it. Without sounding like I'm going too deep; it's something we spend alot of money on following our team around the country for and meet new people & friends (as well as some ar$eholes, granted ) doing so, abit different from sitting inthe front room having a game of Cluedo with the in laws.

However, that said, I don't go as far as to let it affect me too much or my life, there are far more important things in life, I just find QPR / football a nice release fomr work etc at the weekend - especially as I tend to mix going to QPR with having a good social and meeting people & going with friends for a few beers and, on away days, having a night out in different locations after the game.

So, in summary, I don't think it's sad at all - no. Sad is having 14k posts on an internet forum.........

Decent post Dave and tbh this is my view on the whole thing.

Yes I am afraid to say it's very sad... Plain and simple!

For me middle age men wearing football shirts, in some cases up north the full kit I think it's sad.
Most of these fans haven't done excercise for the last 30 years and they proudly show off a well formed beer gut. Not sure what that's all about but most of these fans eat, drink and sleep football. They have the life expectancy of a mayfly and it really is something else to whack our NHS with.

I love rangers and I was gutted when we lost to villa because I know that has decided our fate but i'll get over it. Health should always be considered the no1 important thing from life.

Some fans that aren't earning big money you could argue are silly. Ok spend it on what you want but do you not look to the future at all? I imagine there are plenty of fans that would more than happily build up debt to follow there team, another case of sad.
I'll leave it there and sorry if that doesn't make me a super fan but I just wanted to give an honest assessment.
          Over to someone else!
I played sunday league football today.

Clearly I was the best player on the pitch.

I scored 5 and made 7 last ditch tackles.

We lost 5-0 but the rest of my team were sh it!

In fairness your points are valid there, but it's based on things that weren't mentioned in the OP; ie racking up debt to follow your team, being fat, wearing a QPR shirt?

As matty says different strokes for different folks. In my late teens to my early 20s I went 5 seasons not missing a rangers game home and away. I wouldn't dream of doing that now given my commitments but at the time it worked for me and despite it bordering on the obsessive I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Sorry about the fat comment, as I know you carry a few more lbs than you'd like but I was just talking in general.

Fair play lone, I don't have a problem with that but I was directing my post at middle aged men. I'd suggest some of them to get a divorce if her indoors is that much of a pain in the #### to want to travel up to wigan!

Well I'm glad you are ok with it. I'd be beside myself if it didnt agree with you.

Exactly that - think it all boils down to personal circumstances. As I've said before I'm lucky enough to have no wife, mortgage, kids etc so I don't have the commitments some have and so I can go to more games than some might be able to and I'll enjoyit whilst I can!

That's ok - I've just stuck me fingers down me throat and asked for Hughie down the big white telephone so I feel alot better about myself now.

'whatever the season we'll follow our team'......very apt words to me.....yes i want us to be a premier league team but i wont get suicidal if we go down.....im selfish as i saw our very best team ever and second place finish......which will 'never' happen again...........just the way football is now!

Agreed.... however, being overtly passionate about QPR does not make that person a better fan/supporter than those who are not openly passionate. Actually agree with Matty's view on some points....it doesn't rule my life and there are far more important things to get upset about and if I am going to curse and swear on a keyboard, it certainly wont be on a match thread or after a QPR defeat...that is reserved for things that really matter in life and then it gets both barrels!!!! Don't like it when QPR lose, but so what, can't do anything about it so move on...not into lengthy post mortems ...its only a football match which is lost.
