He didn't 'randomly bring it up' though. It was a thread about a guy who died in Afghanistan, so of course the context of his death (the war, the decision to send him there, why people are trying to kill our soldiers etc etc) is relevant.

Are we seriously so immature and incapable of debate here that the only responses allowed in that thread are variants on "RIP"?

For some strange reason you keep missing the point:

It's a condolence thread on a QPR forum for a QPR fan from the armed forces. It showed a huge lack of respect, tact and sensitivity to use the same thread to voice political opinions on a different subject. You seem an intelligent person, so why is such a basic and simple concept like this so seemingly impossible for you to comprehend? As keeps getting pointed out to you: "There is a time and a place".

I was in the keep Marshy group but saw the thread that is now being discussed hijacked by him and therefore i am withdrawing all my support forthwith.

It was actually quite upsetting to see. Deepcut covers the concern I had well in his post. Tom was QPR and a soldier and up to Marshy turning up the posts were heart warming and non topical.

If a fan died who was a policeman or teacher or some other profession we wouldn't accept a political twist on condolences.

Felt quite sad about it today which I've never had from posting on here.

I paid my condolences, and was respectful to him.

I think the best tribute one can give to a fallen soldier is to ensure other soldiers do not follow in needless wars.

Strangely enough, I did not even hijack it. Whenever I pay condolences to one of our boys, I also pay condolences to the Afghans we have killed, because I am sure not all Taliban are barbaric, some might be fighting because they just don't like foreign troops on their soil. They too are someone's son, father, brother and friend, and so I also give my condolences to them. So I also paid condolences to them, and said our troops should not be there. I did not swear at anyone, and when I saw it was going to become one of those argumentative threads, I said no more.
