In your opinion. Unfortunately things aren't always that black and white. Mods are damned if they do and damned if they don't over such a case. We could have easily sanctioned him by now on various transgressions but we're trying to give the guy a fair crack of the whip by leaving it to the members to decide. Granted it's not something we would like or want to do. The one and only previous time we ran such a poll was 2 years ago with Daveviews because at the time he caused just as many slanging matches on here. A poster suggested we try that again so we did. And I take it you voted, Deepcut.

I've voted here too. Unlike Davesviews, is there really any question over Marshy's credentials as a QPR fan? Accusations of being a Fulham or Chelsea fan are not unusual on here, I've been on the rough end of that myself.

I'm still not comfortable with mob rule, especially as I would be likely to lose a similar vote myself!

I stand by my point, if he's broken enough rules to be banned then apply the appropriate punishment. Otherwise advising people of the availability of the ignore function is a better option.

With all due respect to the Mods I have to agree with the good Doc! A popularity contest is no way to determine whether anyone should be banned, there are defined rules and if anyone doesn't play by them they pay the price regardless of their popularity, I hate the idea of a poll to determine anyone's fate!

If only it were so simple. We have clear rules regarding trolling. The problem we have, as has previously been pointed out, it can be a very tricky task trying to discern if it is in fact trolling. I therefore agreed with another poster that putting it to a public vote would be a fairer way to make such a discernment. I am not comfortable with mob rule either but I am not sure I would describe it as that. But I did feel something had to be done soon as this was clearly an exceptional case which was getting pretty out of hand. And there'd be no chance of this ever happening to a long-term and generally well-respected poster such as yourself, Deepcut.

With Marshy it certainly isnt the case of boring threads that have led to this situation.

                          • It's not his opinions or his views, which are no more insightful or radical than anyone else's. He's obviously a knowlegeable Rangers fan. The trouble is he's rude and aggressive. And loud. Not just occasionally, but always. Being rude and aggressive is his default position. He picks and causes endless fights. All the time. He's the bully. He's not interested in discussions or exchanges of opinion. He can't, in spite of the appeals of the mods, converse. I've never had a run in with him, so I haven't a personal axe to grind, but to be in his virtual company is like being shouted at by a lunatic in the street. It's not a question of mob rule, but one of protecting this small, valued space. Marshy talks endlessly and rudely at us. He must have the mods tearing their hair out, which really isn't fair. They've better things to do with their time. His behavior only gets more obsessive and gets worse. Fella's been given every opportunity to mend his ways. Who here doesn't sigh when you see his name and avatar?? If the vote is for him to stay- and it's up to us- then I fear this will become We Are The Marshy Boys forum because his horrible anti social behavior, having been rewarded, will continue apace....

                            • I think the mods have done the right thing here and its unfair to give them any stick about it. I have had my run ins with them over the years but moderation on this site has vastly improved over the last 6 months or so. Much more common sense used and this is a situation where they just cant please everybody so cut them some slack. They are looking after the majority of their members by putting it up to member vote.....how much fairer can they be? . It is going to irk some people (especially the liberal left wingers who love a minority :-) ) but thats always a good thing in my book :-)

                              • I'd ban him or give him points. Problem is the precedent would be to ban facto too as he starts non-stop attention seeking bs threads constantly.
