Rooney was excellent. Selection in general was spot on. Roy's mistake was not taking off Kane for Vardy after our goal. Kane just looked way off and its Roys job to spot the obvious. The other mistake wasn't the Rooney / Wilshere subbing, it was bringing on Milner - way too negative.

But you take the rough with the smooth and overall it was a good performance.

I must have been watching the wrong game.. We looked more threatening when Rooney come off. He was looking for the Hollywood ball all the time??? He is not Paul Scholes, he never bought Alli into the game, he didn't even drive at there def or mid.... And it was against Russia?? He will not get that time against better sides.. We need to buck our ideas up because we will lose to Wales if we play like that.

Yep you were def watching a different game. Rooney bossed the midfield. Our poor finishing and Roy's wrong subs cost us the game. Vardy on for Sterling and we win - we keep them on the back foot with his pace for the ball over the top rather than let them swarm forward (and past Milner for the goal). It's that simple. Also we should've scored at least three...

Watched a different game to me too. Rooney was arguably our best player and wasn't looking for Hollywood balls at all. He was the one in midfield who kept the game ticking over and could see the movement in front of him and bringing the likes of Rose and Walker into the game.

Kane was shite all game - completely ineffective, completely off the pace and hardly busting a gut whatsoever. He didn't pressure his marker at any point. He should be bullying and harassing them if playing that role. Look at the effort of their big striker on Smalling and Cahill by comparison, chalk and cheese...they know they've been in a game, unlike the Russia CB's. Not sure what was wrong but he should've been subbed without question... I think the reason Roy didn't is because in his mind he thinks with 1 up we need a target striker who can hold the ball up and Kane is the only one to fit that description.... but he wasn't doing it!! Should've bought on Sturridge or Vardy to at least give their defenders something to think about, or push Rooney up.

Sterling was completely ineffective as every time he had the chance to break he would cut back, lose all attacking impetus and it was wasted. Started ok, became useless.

Lallana - 1st half was fantastic, bar finishing which has always been his weak point, but 2nd half wasn't in the game at all.

Rooney was controlling the game and dictating the play. He should never have been subbed. Wiltshire should of come on to help control the remainder of the match with Rooney and see it out. Roy should've taken off Kane and put Rooney up top, or Sterling and put Rooney wide.

Milner - FFS this was the manager basically saying to the opposition, ok we're going to simply try and hold out now so come and attack us to your hearts content.... SO SO SO SO bloody negative!! They were needing to push up which would've left gaps for us to exploit...the perfect time for pace behind them, ie Vardy. We could've gone for the 2nd like any decent team. Them scoring was almost inevitable. Roy you're a ####ing ####.

Couldn't agree more. I actually said to drop rooney on this poll as I based it on the fact I wanted Ali in a number 10 role over him.

However I thought he was class last night as were the whole team for most of the game bar 1 or 2 who lacked a bit of composure. Roy made bad substitutions and it cost us. They were negative and changed our philosophy to one of nervousness. We dont tend to do well under that type of pressure.

Should of subbed sterling and put on anyone of vardy, sturrudge or rashford and added a bit of pace. There was also a argument that KAne could of been replaced considering the attackin options we have and it just wasnt his night. However bringing wayne of when he was dictating the game was just crazy.

I am nervous about Wales as its going to be like a derby game now but I honestly think if we replace sterling and the team play at the same level and intensity as they did against russia then we could put 2 or 3 past them.

If Woy can't think vardy can do a job with Kane upfront then bring in Ross Barkley in midfield and play Rooney up from Because he would be more affective IMO then one off them can be taken off if there tiered and vardy will probably be more off a threat coming off the bench
                      You Rsssssss

Rooney completed 55 passes at an 86% success rate with 38 being in the opponents half, more than any other England player. So yeah, bossed. Taking him off cost us the game. Another genius decision by Hodgson.

Ok mate, still drew. We didn't dominate against a poor Russian side that will finish bottom. Rooney is there to score and create. He didn't do that enough. He wasn't the worst player but I though there was two better players on the pitch other than Rooney. Walker and Llanana. In my opinion.

We did dominate and apart from our composure in front of goal, England played bloody well with Rooney setting the pace and completely dictating the game ad really cant see how anyone would argue about that.

We are all gutted about the last minute goal as was a complete sucker punch and so undeserved but it was one of those things that happens in football. We play like that against Wales and Slovakia and take our chances then we will fly through the group. Slovakia didnt look much cop at all so if we can beat Wales we should be alright.

Rooney was excellent and he is an excellent player. If you want to fight for a draw against Russia then it's a must to play him and the right choice by Roy. Play him against Wales and slov and fingers crossed he can inspire us to two more draws. I don't think so though, they both looked do good for us against each other imo.

                                Chin up Kev.

Neither of them looked as good as England going forward, we carved an experienced Russian defence open time and again, when Wilshere came on he sliced em open too. The unexpected problem was Harry Kane being way off song and not remedying that earlier was Roy's mistake.
