I just dont want to see us go downn this route again, Rio prob could do a job for a year tops but i want to see a team built,. Dont want to get to next year agin and think we need to sign another 4 or 5 players every transfer window.
This signing would show we havent learnt our lessons.

Please, no. Have we learnt nothing. The guy is past it and has serious long term injury problems. I wouldn't take him on even half that salary.

Aside from one freak season reaping the benefits of Tony Carr's work, Redknapp's 32 year old managerial career has been built on the foundation of buying in experienced pro's. To be fair, it's worked.

He's not going to change now

nooo thanx! never the same mistake .. just keep what we have and add some 3 or 4 young players from lower divisions with acceptable price.

Nothing wrong with buying experience pros though is there?.....Experience doesn't have to add up to 30+ players.
Off the top of my head i can remember Arry buying
Paul Kitson & John Hartson and getting the hammers out of trouble ...both of them weren't 30+
at Spurs he bought Walker, Naughton, Modric, Defoe, Kracjar, Bassong
at QPR he has signed Austin, Phillips Simpson...etc
Let's not get stuck down the road of slagging off our manager....again,.. over a story (which is all it is) in a newspaper

To play devils advocate, it's the equivalent of paying just under 4m for a Prem level defender which (if injury free), could go a long way to ensuring our survival next season.

We should also not assume he would be our only CB signing. A CB quartet of Rio, Dunne, Hill and Ned would be trouble. Rio + a younger, more mobile CB wouldnt be so bad...

Firstly, Rio is obviously not the player he was but would still get in at least 10 premier league sides.
His wages are not my concern, I don't pay them but let's all remember the wages we won't be paying (probably Mbia, Adel, Remy, etc, etc)
In the last 2 seasons Nelsen and Dunne ( both ageing and so called knackered players) have been superb for us.
Ironically, Samba, the defender we spent £12 million on, was one of the worst since the days of Gus Caesar.

Harry took on a shambles, got some of the problems shipped out, brought in some players he felt he could trust and still got us up at the first time of asking.
Everyone on this forum is a great manager.
I think we should give Harry more credit and trust him to make the right decisions.
We haven't signed Rio, it's all talk at this stage, so let's see what happens.
How much would Nedum learn from someone like Rio, not to mention the younger players at the club.

If Rio does come, he'll get my backing

Can't believe it? If our board allow H.R. To sign Rio, They have learnt nothing? Tony said we were wiser & smarter, well I can assure you if we sign what's probably been the most overrated player in the prem for years? We ain't no wiser or smarter, he's Crocked played very few games last season, and at £80k a week I don't think so, if we do buy players like this and keep B.Z it must be on pay as you play!

Agree with all of that Dave.

But hey if we're not going to sl4g the manager of we could always do the next best thing, and that is of course turn on each other..... What's that you don't agree with my views, you must be chelski scum...... and you're not a season ticket holder, well you're just riff-raff and obviously not a proper fan........ fock it lets go all out and have a massive debate on whether Adel should play for us next season....

at least lesscott has a couple of years left in him and is more mobile.

Hitman What's your honest view on this, do you think it'll happen? I personally don't think it will especially at 80k. I really think TF has learnt from past mistakes.

I wasn't slagging him off, nor did I mention age. Just stating the bleeding obvious. Redknapp buys experience, more often than not on huge money.

Modric was bought in the Ramos era at Spurs and Defoe (first time round)- was bought by Santini. Redknapp bought him back with Kaboul when Portsmouth couldn't afford the repayments.

But - from the Devil's Advocate perspective, Redknapp also bought James, Campbell, Sheringham, Merson, Gallas, Parker, Saha, Redknapp Jnr, Kanu - all on sky high money for their respective clubs at the time and all over 30. You can see why some would flag concerns.
