  • Having given it some thought I'm not convinced by article. Harry does not negotiate deals beard does so cannot see we would cut a deal then decide it's to much. We have never officially been told were in for rio it's only come from press and media so we were either never in for him or nothing has changed

Same guy who is saying deal is off is same guy saying deal was on so fill in the blanks and draw your own conclusions

Although, I long for the day that a Norwegian will wear the famous hoops I will give you right on this one.

      • Yeah, I agree with Richard.
Rio is a fantastic pundit and was a great player. If has won it all.
An amazing Servent for man u. We should reward him with a 5 year contract. Come on tony, you know it makes sense

West, Redknapp did the negotiations with Ferdinand and it was all agreed so if it doesn't happen then I am guessing only Ferdandes could pull the plug at this late stage. If that is the case would suspect it will have bigger impact than just the Ferdinand deal!

          • Love the way the Mail implies that Rio has made a huge sacrifice for reducing his wages from £200,000 a week. I'm guessing that was a reasonably long term contract to cover the period when he was considerably younger and still a regular England international. A footballer who reaches 35 (and is almost 36) is a lot less valuable commodity than one who is 30, and wages should reflect that. I'd be happy with Rio but it has to be at reasonable wages (or linked to number of games played) and it has to be balanced with a number of younger signings. We can't stuff the team full of Harry's tried and trusted old boy's club from back in the day.

Ultimately, the wages aren't really our concern as it's up to the money men at the club to decide what we can and canFerdinand,.

The real issue is, do we sign an ageing player whose best days are long gone with long standing injury problems, or do we go for good players we can further develop?

I'm fed up of us getting has-beens. I want us signing the next Les Ferdinand or Paul Parker, or Macca, or Sinclair etc. We will never do this getting the likes of Rio or Lumpalard. Signing players such as SWP, Young, AJ, Dyer etc has been a disaster.
Supporting QPR isn't just about a football team. It's about roots and identity.

Well you say the money is down to the money men, by the same token Harry would probably say the footballers are down to the football men - him and his coaches, not us.

I don't blame you for being against a revolving door of aged crocks, all sensible fans are totally fed up with it and in this respect Redknapp has been at least as bad as Hughes. I would just caution against assuming that all old player are bad acquisitions and all our signings will be old this time. A centre back pairing of Rio and Lascalles or Caulker, for instance, could be a really good balance. If its Rio and Dunne or Rio and Clint, however, I wd agree with you entirely.

                  • At the end of the day it's not Harry who has to pay the wages, the board will be stuck with it.

They have every right to pull the plug when you're talking big wages each week for a player that may only play a few games, I don't see Rio going for 'Play as you play' deal.

                    • Looking at it another way, £4m a year as a marquee signing plus his experience, may encourage other good players to come.

I honestly think the likes of caulker and lacelles would love to play alongside and learn from rio.

                          Is the deal off then?

                          • 30Kpw + bonuses on pay as you play 12months + option would be my offer.

If fit, he can do a similar job to the one Nelsen did.

                            • On a report on one of the Sports channels in the US (not sure which one my brother in law was flicking through the channels), the ticker at the bottom of the screen said that Rio was going to work for the BBC next season.

Except it is our concern because there will be a budget and the more of it that goes on Rio the less there will be to spend on others. If, for instance, we were not - reportedly - offering Rio £80,000, might we have been able to match Palace's offer to Caulker? All linked.
