Not a bad day yesterday, with Golden Prospect running out a comfortable winner at Brighton. Peaceful Means also returned us a little place money at Hereford, ensuring a profit on the day.
Today’s bets:
4.00 - Epsom - Gentle Guru - 2 pts win. Available at 7/1 (Sportingbet)
My Kingdom is a progressive gelding who did us a favour by winning easily last time out. The drop back to six furlongs has clearly benefited him and he has proven his effectiveness both at Brighton and on this track. However his price has contracted due to two withdrawals and this could turn out to be a decent test at the trip with the likes of We Have A Dream and Wotashirtful likely to put a decent pace to the race. That pace, along with the softer ground, could bring Gentle Guru into play. She hasn't reached the heights of last season's progressive form but there have been signs in her last two outings over five furlongs at Sandown that she may be coming to hand. She has been noted making late headway on ground faster than ideal and this track, with it's downhill sweep and uphill finish, could suit a horse who has shown her form at Goodwood and Sandown. She is now seven pounds below her last winning mark and, if she can keep tabs on the trailblazers, she could prove stronger in the finish.
4.25 - Salisbury - Tropical Paradise - 1 pt e/w. Available at 10/1 (General) 1st 7/1 - 8's easily available earlier ;D
Given the fact she was a comfortable winner last time out, and represents powerful connections, it's not surprising that Enact heads the market. However she has not been at her best beyond six furlongs so far and she could be worth taking on at a price that appears to be short enough. Romany Princess has caught the eye in defeat recently but her style of racing is always likely to leave her in the lap of the Gods and the drop back in trip is not necessarily a plus. Mo Mhuirnin has progressed well over seven furlongs this season, handles cut in the ground and is still feasibly weighted if she is forgiven a disappointing effort over a mile at York last time out. Her record of finishing placed an her ten previous races, winning twice, is admirable. Photographic is only having her sixth start today, represents powerful connections and has demonstrated very decent form in some very good three year old handicaps. However she is closely weighted with the bigger priced Tropical Paradise on a tenuous line through Never Lose. Tropical Paradise comes into her eighth career race a fresh horse, having only run twice this season, and she showed her best form yet last time out at Ascot. She only went down narrowly in a three year old handicap and, although the winner did nothing form the form subsequently, the third, fourth and seventh (who were all well beaten) have run well since. The selection has a progressive profile, shows a good attitude and will be suited by the give in the ground. She hasn't been at her best in two previous attempts beyond six furlongs but one of those came on her reappearance this season. She is bred to be effective at the trip and she could be a stronger Filly now she has had another Winter on her back.
5.20 - Redcar:
King Pin - 1 pt e/w. Available at 10/1 *(Victor Chandler)
Silly Gilly - 1 pt e/w. Available at 10/1 (General) 3rd 6/1 - 9's available earlier ;DWho knows what Carnivore is capable of from, what has become, a very attractive handicap mark. He is certainly capable of winning this with a degree of ease and his last win on turf did come over today's trip in G/S ground from a five pound higher mark. That was just over two years ago but two victories on the A/W, again from higher marks, in the meantime that he still retains the ability when he consents to use it. Just what the ground will be riding like come post time is also anyone's guess so there at least two variables which make this race more difficult than it would normally be. However two of the more solid options at the relevant prices could be King Pin and Silly Gilly. King Pin drops back in trip but the likelihood of a decent pace offsets that. He started the season off in a Claimer and a Seller but he has since performed well in handicaps and, after just eight career races, he could still be open to further improvement. His best form has been on fast ground but, although he has disappointed on softer ground on both previous occasions he has encountered it, he is bred to handle it so rain may not scupper his chances. Silly Gilly has been in consistent form for the best part of twelve months. She rarely runs a bad race and enjoys racing prominently. She is a regular over a mile nowadays but it's worth noting that she has performed well on her three previous attempts over seven furlongs. She is an infrequent winner but she is not weather dependant, goes well fro a Claimer and is 2 from 4 on this track.
8.50 - Wolverhampton - Silver Print - 2 pts win. Available at 15/2 (Totesport and William Hill)
