After a disappointing end to August, we got September of to a great start yesterday. It looked like possibly being one of those days again when Iron Out found just one too good at Leicester, but things started to take a turn for the better when Bolodenka finished in the prize money at a big price (advised at 20/1). This was followed by 2 nice winners in Unawatuna (advised at 12/1) and Bolanderi (advised at 7/1), which all added up to a +23 point profit on the day.
Today’s bets:
2.20 - Lingfield:
Enthusius - 1 pt win. Available at 17/2 (Sportingbet and Paddy Power)
Alittlemoreflair - 0.5 pts e/w. Available at 33/1 (Victor Chandler)
Poor fayre and favourite, Deuce, may need only to repeat her latest win last time out to collect again. However she is a short price to do so and it may be worth taking her on. Enthusius has obviously had his problems because he has only made the track three times since Dec. 2007. He hasn't shown much in those three races (one over hurdles) and it's guesswork how much ability remains. However he has run well on the A/W here over today's trip and has a win in a Novice hurdle to his name. The handicapper has dropped him six pounds for being well beaten in a race that was probably needed over 12 furlongs at Windsor last time out and the booking of Ryan Moore suggests a positive showing today. Alittlemoreflair looks a difficult ride but she does have the requisite ability to get competitive at this level. On and off the bridle over 12 furlongs at Newmarket last time out she did stick to her task after vigorous urgings from today's jockey. Although she was beaten 12 lengths there is some encouragement in her breeding that longer trips is where her future lies, albeit at a very modest level. She has fallen nine pounds in the weights since the start of the season and, if she can keep in touch, she is one that could still be going when most are stopping.
3.20 - Lingfield - True Decision - 1 pt e/w. Available at 11/1 (General)
It's difficult to trust most of these but True Decision has only had seven races to date and, although inconsistent, he has suggested that he has the ability to win from his current mark. He was disappointing in a Claimer last time out but that was his first run for three months and it may have been needed. Prior to that he had caught the eye when making late headway to finish 5/16, beaten three lengths, in a better handicap than this at Salisbury. That was over six furlongs and suggested he was ready to step back up to the trip over which he won a Maiden. Her runs from the same mark today as he did at Salisbury and he went close the last time he was seen running on this surface. If all is well, and his absence and return in a Claimer does sound a note of caution, he could go well at double figure odds.
3.50 - Lingfield - Final Drive - 1 pt e/w. available at 12/1 (Bet365 and Sportingbet)
Only had seven races so far (three in this country) and indications are that he needs a bit further than today's trip. The lack of a natural front runner is also a concern. However the form he showed in a Maiden over seven furlongs at Kempton last month makes his mark of 60 look attractive and his best run in his native Ireland also came on the A/W over the same trip. He looks to be coming to hand and, if this doesn't turn into a short sprint, he could be finishing well.
5.00 - Brighton - Golden Prospect - 2 pts win. Available at 5/1 (Victor Chandler) 1st 7/2 - 4's available earlier ;D
A mixture of low grade horses who are in form or who are capable of better from their current marks. Golden Prospect ran better than his finishing position suggests over seven furlongs at Goodwood last time out. Behind a wall of horses he wasn't able to be asked for an effort until the principals had flown. He finished his race well without knowing he had really be in one and there may be better to come today. He hinted he was returning to form over C/D in his penultimate race and he has the assistance of a good three pound claimer in this Apprentice race. She will need to be alert at the start because the selections can fluff his lines but, if they get away on terms, Golden Prospect should make his presence felt in this grade. A winner over seven furlongs here in June he is the sole representative at the track of a yard in good form.
5.10 - Hereford - Peaceful Means - 1 pt e/w. Available at 12/1 (General) 2nd 8/1 - 12's available earlier
9.20 - Kempton - Piper's Song - 2 pts win. Available at 8/1 (General)
