Piper’s Legend ran a good race yesterday to run on for a place (advised at 14/1), but the other selections were disappointing, so it meant the day ended in a loss.

Today’s bets:

2.40 - Ayr - Jachol - 3 pts win. Available at 5/1 (ladbrokes and William Hill)
Fine stamp of a horse who has plenty of scope for physical improvement. Still relatively inexperienced but there has been plenty of encouragement in his last two outings that he is beginning to grasp what is required. Disappointed under softer conditions in three Maidens as a Juvenile but they were over sprint trips. he has the action of a horse who will appreciate a bit of cut in the ground and, as a horse who doesn't seem to do anything quickly, he will appreciate the ground blunting any turn of foot present in the opposition. The drop back in trip won't do him any harm and he represents a powerful yard who don't send many to this track.

3.10 - Ayr:
Lordship - 2 pts win. Available at 8/1 (Victor Chandler)
Distant Pleasure - 2 pts win. Available at 15/2 (Totesport and Stan James)
Wide open race but two that appeal under these conditions are Lordship and Distant Pleasure. If Lordship ever consents to settle then there is a race of this nature in him from his current career low handicap mark. Therein lies his chance. The drop back to seven furlongs is a move in the right direction and he has proven himself on soft ground on a number of occasions in the past. The yard have had a torrid time with their flat horses this season but they send just the one to this meeting (entered and jockeyed up again tomorrow). Distant Pleasure was disappointing under conditions which should have suited last time out at Pontefract but both her wins have come after poor efforts so she is capable of bouncing back. Her performances over 7/8 furlongs in three races in soft/heavy ground last season make her of definite interest here from slightly lower in the handicap.

3.40 - Ayr:
High Severra - 2 pts win. Available at 6/1 (General)
Woodsley house - 0.5 pts e/w. Available at 25/1 (General)

4.10 - Ayr - Hollins - 1 pt e/w. Available at 18/1 (General)
This is a stiff task for Hollins but he is still relatively unexposed and could find the requisite improvement to get competitive. He disappointed in a better race last time out at Newmarket but he trounced the opposition over today's trip at Pontefract on his reappearance and he looks a big price given this opposition is generally much more exposed. He is only five pounds higher than for that win and he will relish the underfoot conditions he gets here. He like to race prominently and, if he can bring his stamina into play, he could be a difficult horse for the majority of these to get past. The yard are in good form and they have booked a talented seven pound claimer.
