An open looking race and one in which those at the head of the market look beatable. River Dee makes his debut on this surface but his Dam recorded two of her three career victories here and the selection does handle a bit of cut on turf. He probably found the ground too soft at Leicester last time out but his form prior to that from higher marks in better races this season makes him of interest today. He caught the eye making late ground at Pontefract over today's trip in June and gives the impression he will be suited by the demands of this track. Runs from a career low handicap mark. Shannon Golden is only having his fifth start but he has shown a glimmer of ability in his last two outings, He didn't run badly in a five furlong Maiden here last month and did make up a bit of late ground over the same trip against his elders on his handicap debut at Nottingham last time out. Looks likely to be suited by the step up in trip and is equipped with the first time tongue tie, an aid which benefited his Sire.

A few potential improvers present but none of them have set the pulse racing so far and favourite, Spring Quartet, doesn't appeal at his current price. Rebel prince seems to be going backwards since a decent effort on his return to the turf over ten furlongs in G/S ground in April. However his four races since have all been over 12/14 furlongs in conditions which may not have been ideal. His half sister, Rebel Pearl, has shown a preference for easier ground and his Dam comes from a family who did likewise. It may therefore not be too surprising that the selection returned his best effort to date on ground with a bit of cut. He has been finishing weakly in his races over further but a combination of the drop back in trip, the first time blinkers and a drop in the weights could see him fare better today. At a double figure price a place at least looks within his capabilities in this company.
