Please note: Due to circumstances beyond control, there will be no selections on Sunday or Monday. Will be back on Tuesday and will have selections for the rest of the week.
What a frustrating day yesterday. Virtually all of the selections ran well for no reward. Zaaqya and Easter Gift finsihed 2nd, The History Man and Ryedane finished 3rd, and Barliffey and Mayonman finished 4th. The place money picked up meant not too much damage was done however, and it’s very encouraging to see that all selections are still running well.
Today’s bets:
2.20 - Newmarket - Paquerettza - 4 pts win. Available at 4/1 (Stan James)
Won on her reappearance at Redcar and the form of that race has worked out really well. Wasn't seen for another three months before turning up over this C/D last month and showed a very willing attitude in seeing out the trip to win by a length. This is only her sixth career start so further improvement looks highly likely for an in form stable. Another five pound rise in the weights in a better race will demand progression but if she were housed in the yard of the likely favourite, Suba, she would probably be shorter in price. Russian Jar won on his debut but the horses he beat have since been beaten from marks in the high 60's so his task is not easy from an initial mark of 82, even if significant improvement is forthcoming.
2.50 - Newamarket - Sir Edwin Landseer - 1 pts e/w. Available at 8/1 (Sportingbet)
Probably not as good as he once was but showed he retains plenty of ability on his debut for his new stable and this race is said to be his target. He's used to racing against better opposition than this and he is drawn to what early pace there is in the race. He likes to be held up off a decent gallop and he has the ideal partner to execute such tactics. The current form of the yard is a concern but the horse ticks the boxes marker trip, track, ground and handicap mark.
3.25 - Newmarket - Noverre To Go - 2 pts win. Available at 15/2 (Betfred)
Noverre To Go was two lengths behind Enderbey Spirit on similar terms over six furlongs at Haydock last month but that was his first race for almost three months and he has since improved to win at Ascot over the same trip. That victory suggested he is maturing mentally because he settled earlier in the race than usual and he showed a willing attitude in buckling down to pull clear with a progressive rival. There was three lengths back to the third and fourth and, although they re-oppose on better terms today, the selection looks likely to improve again. Each one of his Dam's seven progeny have won races (16 between them) and, with the stable in good form, Noverre To Go looks capable of adding to the tally.
3.55 - Ripon:
Hitchens - 1 pt e/w. Available at 12/1 (General)
Excusez Moi - 2 pts win. Available at 15/2 (Totesport)
Hitchens victory in a four runner race at Thirsk on his reappearance came at the expense of Knot In Wood and Wi Dud in eye-catching fashion. He hasn't repeated it since but there have been signs under condition not ideal that there is a big race in him. Six furlongs, fast ground in a handicap run at a decent pace from a mark of 99 affords him his best opportunity since that victory. Most of the early pace is drawn low but it's blistering pace and it may lead to a few cutting each other's throats and setting it up for those drawn, on what is normally, the favoured side of the track. Excusez Moi didn't get the gaps when he wanted them in a very competitive handicap at York last time out but he was finishing better than anything else and he has shown in the past that he has what it takes to win this race. He hasn't run many bad races this season and the yard remain in very good form.
5.10 - Newmarket - Risque Heights - 1 pt e/w. Available at 22/1 (Sportingbet)
7.30 - Lingfield - Cativo Cavallino - 1 pt e/w. Available at 16/1 General)
another bad day by all accounts
