Yet another tremendous day on Wednesday, as Mexican Bob (advised at 12/1) and Sir Isaac (advised at 11/2) both prevailed, for a +17 point profit on the day. Profit for August is now up to +51.23 points.
Today’s bets:
2.55 - Newbury - Zaaqya - 2 pts win. Available at 6/1 (General) 3rd :(
Slightly disappointing last time out but that four runner affair wasn't a bad race and the soft ground was probably against her. That came on the back of a win over 12 furlongs on this track, the form of which looks solid for the grade. The first two pulled well clear of three horses who went into the race after victories and the third has won again since. This represents a step up in class so she needs to improve again but her progressive profile suggests that is not out of the question. The step up in trip should suit on running style and her Grand Dam was a winner over 14 furlongs.
3.10 - Nottingham - The History Man - 1 pt e/w. Available at 14/1 (Stan James) 3rd 14/1 ;D
Sod's Law says that there will a couple of withdrawals from this seventeen runner affair but with four places up for grabs currently The History Man looks capable of filling one of them. His latest form figures don't inspire confidence but they could be misleading. He raced with just one other well away from the main group at Hamilton in June and, although never involved with the rest of the field he did beat that rival, Just Sam, by a length and a half. That horse has gone onto be placed and win two of his next four races. His jockey again elected to switch her mount and race on the stands side at Leicester later the same month. The first five home that day raced up the centre and The History Man finished 3/9 in his group. Two of the three ahead of him in that group have subsequently won races. He didn't have many excuses when finishing in midfield, beaten nearly six lengths, at Doncaster last month but he wasn't disgraced and a bit of late headway suggests he is still in form. He has changed stables since that last run and that, along with a career low mark, could see him run well.
4.45 - Nottingham:
Honorable Endeavour - 2 pts win. Available at 13/2 (Sportingbet)
The Quiet Genius - 0.5 pts e/w. Available at 33/1 (General)
Some of the market principles in this race seem to be stepping up in trip in hope rather than any solid reasoning that they will stay. However Honourable Endeavour, as well as being stoutly bred, has proven his ability to stay this far. He ran a previous easy winner to within a short head over almost two miles at Folkestone earlier this month and, if that hasn't taken too much out of him, he could outstay these. he is due to go up two pounds in future handicaps but given there was four lengths back to the third in that last race even that could underestimate him. He is partnered by a jockey who was a winner on her sole start for the yard this season. The Quick Genius is a bit more speculative but he is bred to appreciate a staying trip and has shown tentative signs of ability in his first season racing. his effort in his last Maiden over ten furlongs at Newcastle in May suggests he could be competitive from today's mark of 59.
4.55 - Newcastle - Ryedane - 2 pts win. Available at 7/1 (Victor Chandler) 3rd :anger:
Let us down badly when we supported him at Catterick in his penultimate race but he never looked happy that day and he is better judged on most of his other performances this season. He was 5/12, beaten almost six lengths, at Catterick last time out but he didn't get the clearest of runs and did mate late headway, despite his jockey dropping his hands. This race looks much easier for a horse who is equally effective over both five and six furlongs. He retains enough ability to win from his current mark but with all his turf wins coming on ground good or faster he may not appreciate any significant rainfall. Both stable and jockey in fair form recently.
5.10 - Newbury - Eastern Gift - 2 pts win. Available at 6/1 (General) 2nd :electric_shock:
7.00 - Newmarket - Barliffey - 1 pt e/w. Available at 14/1 (General) 4th 6/1 - 14/1 available this afternoon. ;D
There are a few in here who stay further so a decent gallop looks on the cards. That will suit Barliffey who has been racing in better company this season. He was a bit disappointing last time out in a much better race but this three pound ease in the weights has enabled him to drop in to this grade and he looks capable of taking advantage. He drops back to a mile but his best performances last season came over this trip and he is well drawn to track those that would prefer a test of stamina.
8.25 - Catterick - Mayoman - 2 pts win. Available at 7/1 (General)
