Opus Maximus finished 3rd yesterday, and Memphis Man went down by less than a length, but the day did end in a profit thanks to the comfortable win of Jukebox Jury at Haydock.
Today’s bets:
2.30 - Windsor - Feasible - 2 pts win. Available at 5/1 (General)
A nineteen raced maiden wouldn't normally look attractive from a betting perspective but there can be few more deserving of a victory than Feasible. His record suggests he may not be straightforward but he doesn't seem to do a lot wrong in his races. He may be the type who needs to be dropped in front right on the line but he demonstrated plenty of guts and determination when going down by the narrowest of margins on the A/W last time out. This is a better race but he puts in more good performances than bad and did run well over this C/D on a couple of occasions from higher marks last season. The yard had gone around 50 entries without a winner over recent months but their fortunes took a turn for the better when Jeremiah won for them at Brighton yesterday.
3.10 - Redcar:
Royal Premium - 2 pts win. Available at 7/1 (Sportingbet)
Tropical Duke - 0.5 pts e/w. Available at 33/1 (General) 1st 14/1 - got 33/1 early afternoon. :boss:
Large field (even with three withdrawals) but plenty of horses who will need to show a lot more than have recently if they are to prevail today. Royal Premium has run well in all three of his races stepped up to a mile this season and notched his first victory at the fifteenth attempt in heavy ground at Haydock last time out. He is up five pounds for that win but the form, albeit modest, looks solid in the context of this race and he does act on faster ground. The yard have been struggling for winners this season but their horses have been performing well lately, most at very big prices. Tropical Duke may be worth a small speculative wager at a big price. He has shown little in three races on turf this season but they have come at longer trips and he was reported to have not enjoyed his experience of Carlisle last time out. He showed tentative signs of ability in two A/W Maidens back in January over ten furlongs and today's drop back to a mile could suit. That Maiden form suggests he could get competitive from a lowly mark of 52 if the conditions of this race suit.
4.40 - Redcar:
Kapsiliat - 2 pts win. Available at 8/1 (General)
Markadam - 0.5 pts e/w. Available at 33/1 (General)
5.00 - Windsor - Baby Queen - 2 pts e/w. Available at 9/1 (Sportingbet)
Had looked progressive when winning over today's trip at Nottingham and Bath earlier in the season but has beaten only one home in her last two starts. However they came on stiffer tracks (once on softer ground) and she could be seen to much better effect on this speed orientated course and faster ground. She could soon grab the rail from her draw and could prove difficult to overhaul if her jockey gets the fractions right. The manner of her victories suggests a mark of 64 will not prove beyond her and her breeding, along similar lines to Acclamation, gives her the inherent ability to improve.
