Splinter Cell just managed to get his head in front for us yesterday (advised at 5/1), but apart from Tyfos (3rd) none of the other selections troubled the judge, and the day ended in just a 1 point loss.

There will be no bets on Wednesday.

Today’s bets:

3.45 - Yarmouth - Surprise Party - 3 pts win. Available at 9/2 (Sportingbet) 1st 3/1 - late surge on betting from 4/1

This won't take a lot of winning despite the large field. Astrodonna is an inconsistent Filly but the booking of Ryan Moore suggests a big run is expected. She has slipped to a career low mark and has placed form in better races than this. One Cool Kitty showed a bit of promise as a Juvenile but she hasn't built on a promising reappearance on the A/W and her hopes look pinned on the step back up to a mile rejuvenating her. Rock Art represents powerful connections and is entitled to respect on that basis alone. She has shown a bit of ability in her qualifying Maidens and is bred to be better than her rating. However at this stage the handicapper the handicapper hasn't taken many chances in handing her an initial mark of 70 Kassuta showed a bit more returned to the flat last time out but, for all that she is well handicapped on some of her old form, she is basically exposed. Turkish Locum is one of the least exposed in this field. She qualified for handicaps by running over sprint trips as a Juvenile. She went close stepped up to seven furlongs for the first time on turf at Warwick last time out but the subsequent performances of many of the horses in that field suggests the form is modest at best. Bookiebasher Babe hasn't yet won on turf but she ran one of her better races at Newmarket last time out. Her best races on grass have come in soft ground and the fact four of her five wins have come on fibresand means she will probably appreciate any rain that falls between now and post time. One that could stump them all is Surprise Party. She is relatively lightly raced and has improved with each outing this season. She showed promise in her first couple of Maidens as a Juvenile and it's likely she will prove to be better than her current mark some time soon, hopefully today. She is related to a number of winners, some of them very good class, and has shown she handles ground from soft through to G/F. The yard are in form and have a 25% strike rate this season with today's jockey. Surprise Party takes on her elders for the first time but her Trainer has a 20% strike rate (3 from 15) with three year old Fillies in this kind of race in recent seasons (2 from 7 and 2 placed in July).

5.45 - Yarmouth:
Mr Skipiton - 2 pts win. Available at 7/1 (General):boss:
Secret Dubai - 1 pt e/w. Available at 28/1 (Sportingbet)

Guto has been knocking loudly at the door lately but he doesn't race over six furlongs very often, even though he does have form over it, and has done all his winning over the minimum trip. Shakespeare's Son is back down below his winning mark but his one win and six seconds from 24 starts suggests he often finds something to beat him. Outer Hebrides is running respectably but it's almost two years since he won on turf and he has lost his last thee handicaps on grass from a four pound lower mark than he runs from today. Big boom is relatively unexposed and comes here on the back of his best run to date when going close on his handicap debut over C/D last month. From just a two pound higher mark he could improve again. He has the action of a horse who will appreciate any further rain that falls. On this occasion we will stick with Mr Skipiton and the bigger priced Secret Dubai. Mr Skipiton went very close for us at Chepstow last time out on only his third run on turf. He races from just a one pound higher mark today and, in just his second season racing, he has the potential to improve again. He can be a bit keen so a generous gallop would help and see him finishing to good effect. Yet to race on ground softer than good. Secret Dubai ran a bit better on the A/W last time out but hadn't been in very good form on fast ground turf before that. However he had better form in Italy last season and showed more for his previous Trainer in this country until being claimed by current connections in April. His profile suggests he needs good ground or softer and he could be seen to better effect on today's easier surface. He has slipped to a very tempting mark and has run well without the aid of headgear and tongue tie in the past.
