A good day yesterday thanks to the win of Iceman George (advised at 14/1) and the place of Haajes (advised at 16/1).
Today’s bets:
3.35 - Newmarket - Gentle Guru - 1 pt e/w. Available at 14/1 (General)
Doric Lady comes here at the top of her game and the progressive Bounty Box is respected along with pretty Bonnie and Raggle Taggle. However, even though her form figures this season don't give her an obvious chance, Gentle Guru is interesting now she has dropped back down to her last winning mark. She didn't fair badly on her reappearance in a Listed race over five furlongs at Bath, a test which was probably on the sharp side for her. She disappointed in another Listed event in heavy ground at Haydock in May but did have a tough task on the figures anyway. She was one of a few who took time to be pulled up after a false start at Ascot last time out and unfortunately, once the spring had been uncoiled, she refused to settle on the restart, finally fading out of contention. her best form has been with cut in the ground, three of her four career victories coming on ground the soft side of good. She stays further than this so the presence of early pace drawn high, middle and low will suit and should give her a good tow into the race. A good traveller, she represents a stable better known for their NH horses but they have an impressive 26% strike rate with their sprinters in recent seasons so they know how to prepare them.
4.30 - Newbury - Safari Sunup - 2 pts e/w. Available at 8/1 (General)
Bugaku looks very progressive and could be a blot on the handicap but he has yet to prove himself under these conditions and he takes on some experienced handicappers. Safari Sunup has won (or been placed) in six of his twelve races and he returned his best performance to date on the A/W at Lingfield over today's trip last time out. He only encountered ground softer than good on one occasion last season (respectable reappearance) but he showed progressive form as a Juvenile on G/S or soft ground. He returns to the turf today from just a one pound higher mark than at Kempton and, although the yard have been in poor form this season, they have made an eye-catching jockey booking for the selection.
5.05 - Newbury:
Cleaver - 3 pts win. available at 9/2 (Sportingbet)
Winged D'Argent - 1 pt e/w. Available at 16/1 (Sportingbet)
9.10 - Haydock - Kindest - 3 pts win. Available at 5/1 (General)
Speed Dating is probably the one to beat but his price makes no appeal whatsoever. We had our fingers burnt by Kindest last month at Windsor but it's too soon to be writing her off. She didn't look entirely happy on the fast ground and, with soft ground form/influence present on her Dam's side, she maybe seen in a better light returned to slower ground this evening. Her progressive form in Maidens warrants a mark of 70 (and probably higher) and her yard send just the one on the trek north. Her jockey travels from Newbury for just the one booked ride and the fact it comes in the last could be a significant pointer.
