Orpen Grey and The Jobber went close yesterday without giving us a return, but the day did end in profit thanks to the decisive win of Firebet at Newmarket (advised at 7/1)

There will be no bets on Saturday or Sunday.

Today’s bets:

2.35 - Newmarket:
Redford - 2 pts win. Available at 7/1 (General)
Racer Forever - 1 pt e/w. Available at 14/1 (General)

Captain Brilliance could be like his stablemate, Forgotten Voice, and be a potential Group horse in a handicap. If he is then a mark of 98 won't stop him winning this. However the price of such a horse rarely appeals and more of them lose through inexperience than win. Redford was touted in the same way after the start of last seasons campaign and, to be fair to him, he has performed well when underfoot conditions have been suitable. He built on his Haydock reappearance by running well in the Buckingham Palace stakes at Royal Ascot on ground which was probably a bit quick for him. drying conditions here are again a concern but, if there is enough ease in the ground, he could run a big race. he stays every yard of seven furlongs and the climb to the line here should be in his favour. Stable in form and his jockey knows how to get the best out of him. Racer Forever has always had ability but hasn't always consented to use it. He was only just behind Redford in the Buckingham but was on the disadvantageous side of the course. His form tailed off last season so he is probably a horse best caught in his first few runs of a campaign. He has plenty of form over a stiff, straight seven furlongs and the best of it wouldn't see him weighted out of this. He was a close seventh in last season's renewal from a four pound higher mark.

3.20 - York:
Happy Anniversary - 1 pt e/w. Available at 20/1 (Blue Square and Ladbrokes) 2nd 10/1 - 18/1 available earlier ;D
Turn Me On - 1 pt e/w. Available at 14/1 (Sportingbet and Victor Chandler)

4.10 - Ascot - Hurricane Spirit - 0.5 pts e/w. Available at 33/1 (General)

this looks likely to go to one of the lightly raced, progressive types but at a very big price a small stake on Hurricane Spirit may be worth risking. He has had an interrupted career and didn't show much on his return in the Buckingham Palace but he had a couple of pieces of form at this trip last season. They came from 5/6 pound higher marks and if he needed that initial run he coud be a very different horse today. Listed class a few seasons back he is not that good now but the easing of the ground will suit and, as an entire, it's likely he has been kept in training for a reason.

4.55 - Newmarket - Cool Strike - 1 pt e/w. Available at 16/1 (General) 1st 9/1 - 16's available this morning :boss:

5.20 - Ascot - Paktolos - 1 pt e/w. Available at 11/1 (General)

Running better than his form figures suggest and the step back up to 12 furlongs will suit. He is now back down to a mark five pounds below from which he last won on the A./W and just three pounds higher than for his last win on turf. Versatile regarding ground conditions he has the assistance of one of the better five pound claiming Apprentices. The blinkers which have been in place for his last two victories are retained and the yard have had two winners and two seconds from their last seven flat runners.

9.20 - Chester - Inspirina - 3 pts win. Available at 9/2 (Ladbrokes) 1st 9/2 :boss:
Stepped back to a trip short of his best and fell out of the stalls. In the circumstances he did well to finish 6/16, within nine lengths of the winner. That followed a good reappearance over this C/D where he just failed to win from today's mark. His only previous run over this C/D produced an even better effort on his second start last season when he only went down by a length from a ten pound higher mark in a better race. His form tailed off in the second half of the campaign but, as a result he is now very well handicapped. partnered by a jockey who rides this track well.
