Today’s bets:
Plumpton 2.10
Approaching veteran status and has the quirks of a horse who is a bit too wise for a Punter's pocket at time. he ran well in a much better race than this back from a break last time out but he has often put in a disappointing performance on his second run back so he is not guaranteed to reproduce it today. However he is on his lowest mark for 18 months and connections have turned to the jockey who has got him home for three of his six career victories. Domenico is more often than not seen at Huntingdon these days but he has run well here in the past and top of the ground is very much in his favour. Has the track/trip/ground and jockey so just needs to be in the mood for a big run.
Selection – DOMENICO. 2 point win @ 7/1 (Ladbrokes)
Southwell 3.50
It's never easy to be confident supporting Pepperoni Pete due to his inconsistency. However he showed what he is capable of from today's mark by placing twice in competitive races last October and it's possible to excuse him his three performances since. The ground was probably softer than ideal at Wincanton and he chased a too fast a pace at Taunton. His last race came after a break, although three of his five wins came after such an absence for his former yard. He has his conditions today and there are enough doubts surrounding a number of the opposition to enable him to get competitive if he fancies it.
Selection – PEPPERONI PETE. 1 point E/W @ 16/1 (General)
Uttoxeter 4.00
This is a poor race and, with nothing setting the pulse rating, supporting a few of the bigger priced runners may pay dividends. Bailey France has probably had his excuses for his two runs in this country so far. He was way out of his depth in November and may have found the ground turning against him last time out at Folkestone. he has changed stables since and his new handler has shown a knack of getting the best out of supposed disappointing horses. Bailey France had winning form over hurdles and fences in France and is a possible blot on the handicap from a mark of 92. Wujood has disappointed since winning from a four pound lower mark over C/D in September. However he lost a shoe in his next race, probably found the ground too soft at Wincanton in December and may have needed his last outing after a break. Fast ground is in his favour and he hasn't many miles on the clock over hurdles. Piper's Legend is ten years old but he hasn't been over raced. He is down to his lowest mark for almost three years and had form in better races than this last season to be considered here. His only win came on fast ground but it was his effort in softer ground than ideal at stratford last September that stands out. If he is still capable of producing anywhere near that level of form he will be a force in this company from a twelve pound lower mark.
