Sorry to be positive, but another good deed by the club.
QPR TO WEAR SPECIAL CHARITY SHIRTS ON STAN BOWLES DAY
Club to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s Society when QPR play host to Rotherham United on Saturday 22nd August …
QPR will wear special charity shirts when the R’s play host to Rotherham United at Loftus Road on Saturday 22nd August.
Earlier this summer, the club confirmed plans to hold a special matchday dedicated to Stan Bowles, who has recently been diagnosed with a form of Alzheimer’s.
The date coincides with the 40th anniversary of the day Rangers won 5-1 at reigning Division One champions Derby County – and Stan scored a hat-trick!
Amongst other planned activities on ‘Stan Bowles Day’, the R’s home shirts will carry the Alzheimer’s Society logo, kindly and generously donated by our official shirt sponsors, AirAsia.
Each match-worn shirt will be signed by the respective player, and auctioned off at the 1975/76 Gala Night Event (more details to follow in due course). Stan’s daughter Tracy told www.qpr.co.uk: “This is a fantastic gesture from AirAsia and we are extremely grateful to everyone at the club for facilitating this.
“The level of support we’ve received from QPR, the Trust, the Rangers fans and the wider footballing community at large has been mind-blowing, but what’s just as important is that everyone understands the condition and everything associated with it.
“As a family, we’re all really looking forward to the day – and Stan is too.”
QPR’s Head of Media & Communications, Ian Taylor, added: “AirAsia and Tony Fernandes, in particular, were really supportive of this idea when the media team approached them.
“We’ve had great support from them and the Alzheimer’s Society, as well as the FA and Football League, in making this happen and I’m sure the supporters will be keen to get their hands on the shirts when they go to auction later this season.”
Jeremy Hughes, Chief Executive at Alzheimer's Society, said: “It’s fantastic that Queens Park Rangers is raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society to help people with dementia live well. By holding a ‘Stan Bowles Day’ and putting the Alzheimer’s Society logo on their players’ shirts, the club will make a big difference for Stan and his family and raise awareness about a condition which affects so many people.
“In the UK alone 850,000 people are living with dementia and the money raised will be channelled into vital support services for those with the condition and their carers.
“It is only in recent years that people have started to talk about dementia so openly. Football clubs are at the heart of their local community and have an important role to play in creating a dementia-friendly society.”
Siegtraund Teh Siew Foong, AirAsia Group Chief Commercial Officer, said: “We are delighted to donate our QPR shirt sponsorship to the Alzheimer’s Society for this special Stan Bowles Day.
“We were saddened to hear the news about one of QPR’s most iconic players, but hopefully this will make a big difference in raising awareness of the condition and in due course, providing Stan and his family with some funds for his on-going care.”
Further details regarding the Stan Bowles Day, as well as fundraising opportunities, will be announced in due course. To learn more about Alzheimer’s, click here http://www.alzheimers.org.uk/

MARK Warburton says that his QPR squad will be fit and firing for Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship clash away at promotion favourites Leeds United.
The R’s suffered their first defeat in four games on Monday night, losing out to Brentford in W12, but the boss insists that there will be no sign of a hangover when they walk out at Elland Road.
“It’s a demanding league; the games come thick and fast so you can’t be sitting there and feeling sorry...-

“We have got to set the highest possible standards for ourselves. We gave away a really sloppy goal against Blackburn. From 4-1 and cruising, we survived a warning shot and we were loose and we have got to recognise that and be better.
“It was a good win going into the break; four goals, four different scorers and more goals for our front two. It was great for Brighty and Ebs [to score] too but we were loose on too many occasions.”

AS MARK Warburton readies his troops for Blackburn this weekend, he has called on his players to “deliver a performance” in west London.
The R’s suffered a 3-0 loss at Cardiff City on Wednesday night and the R’s boss admits his post-match speech to the players was one that needed to be carefully considered.
“It was important we got the message right to the players,” Warburton explained.
“There is no denying we lost...-

Final match before the annoying international break, both sides not in the best of RECENT form heading into this one. We failed to beat Luton and Forest at HOME, but from our point of view, I am hoping our AWAY DAYS are much more lucky.
Been impressed with QPR's start to the season, as I was worried about the amount of new faces coming in. However they have hit the ground running and are scoring plenty or goals and have been in amongst the top end of the table for the most part of...-

“The fact of the matter is we have lost a game of football and it hurts. If it doesn’t hurt then you shouldn’t be in the game. The good thing is we have a very swift chance to make amends.”
MARK Warburton admits he and his squad are hurting following Saturday’s defeat – but they welcome the early opportunity to “make amends” when they visit Cardiff City on Wednesday night.
After four consecutive wins, QPR lost 2-0 against...-
